Euphoria has become a very popular TV show talked about at Encinal, since the second season premiered on January 9th. Some adults question how safe it is for young viewers to watch, as there is tons of nudity and violence in the story. The main character Rue is played by Zendaya Coleman, a very popular celebrity and actor featured in the last Spiderman movie and her early work on Disney Channel. Euphoria is not available on Netflix which some students have complained about. The premise of the show is about a drug addict named Rue who struggles with East Highland Highschool life with her friends. She deals with the challenges of her friendships, sex, love, drugs, mental issues, and trauma.
“I really enjoyed Euphoria because of the good acting and the way it was created all together. It's cool that it had two big actors from the Bay Area, I know Fez played by Angus Cloud, he lived up the street from me and he plays golf with my dad. The thing I didn't like is that there were only 8 episodes, I wanted there to be more!” Anna Davis.
A lot of Encinal students are inspired by the unique eyeshadow and clothing in Euphoria. Some people wear similar outfits at school. Lots of people imitate and make tutorials of the makeup looks on the app Tik Tok.
“I loved the makeup style and costumes that Euphoria had. I feel like the sex and drug parts are not a big issue anymore because these things are already normalized in the media.” Abby Franco.
Some kids shared how it was difficult to watch at times, especially scenes about death and how drugs take over a person.
“I feel that it's romanticizing drugs for me, because of social aspects and where I’m at in my life and it was kind of hard to watch, it still was a fun show to see!” Annabel Jones.
