Women’s Soccer The varsity team battled to a hard-fought 0-0 tie against Alameda on January 13. “I was nervous because there were a lot of people in the crowd and I knew a bunch of the girls on the other team…but what motivated me was the buildup to this game and proving them wrong since they thought they would crush us,” said goalie Ila Cantrell (10).

Cantrell has four shutouts so far this season. “We had to stay really coordinated on defense and be able to drop for each other really quickly due to the high pressure. We were really determined not to let them score,” said Isa Anderson (11). JV women's soccer lost to Alameda, 5-0. Current records: Varsity: 3-1-2 JV: 1-1-3

Men's Soccer

Varsity soccer faced three cancellations in the past two weeks and hasn’t played a game since December 17. Current record: 0-1-3

Women’s Basketball 🏀

Varsity women's basketball was short-handed, playing with only five players in both of their games. This challenge resulted in a 77-34 loss against Piedmont and 63-45 loss against Castro Valley.

“One of the positives that we are taking away is the fact that we only had five people…we all played our hardest despite the circumstances,” said Surina Castro (9).

Saturday’s Island Bowl against Alameda was postponed due to Encinal having not enough healthy players.

However, the JV Lady Jets had a spirited affair against Alameda, squashing the Hornets 54-35. Tensions ran high in the rivalry.

“It felt amazing [to win]. I wish they had better sportsmanship though…I feel like there was extra aggression,” said Caidyn Himrod (10). "I feel like us as a team got closer, so we all trust each other more with the ball...because we just wanted to win a game."

Current Records:

Varsity: 3-6

JV: 1-2

Men’s Basketball 🏀

All three men's teams defeated Arroyo on January 13.

Varsity: 55-32

JV: 58-37

Frosh: 37-29

“We were pretty confident…well not playing a game for about a month. I'd say that we ran our defense really well and communicated well with each other,” said Ezra Radnaasuren (11).

The varsity team has won five of its last six games.

Current Records:

Varsity: 5-3

JV: 4-2

Frosh: 5-3
