Spring Sports Weekly Wrap-Up: April 25-30

Men's Volleyball šŸ

Encinal went 1-1 in the final week of their season. The Jets lost 3-0 to Bishop O'Dowd but beat Hayward 3-1 on senior night.


"Senior night was amazing," said Senior Alex Chin. "Even though we lost most of our games this season, just winning on that night alone to close it out made up for all of it."


The victory broke the Jets six game losing streak.


"It felt awesome and relieving," said Simone White. "It was one of the times that felt like a win was needed. Starting off and ending with a win isn't too bad; we had a good season."


However, the team was surprised to discover it qualified for the Division 3 NCS playoffs as a 12th seed. The Jets play #5 De Anza (20-9) on May 3.


Current record: 4-16 (2-11)


Softball šŸ„Ž

The Jets won two crucial league last week, beating Tennyson 10-0 on April 25 and Hayward 13-3 on April 27.


"We were really confident going into the [Hayward] game," Senior Stella Cashin said. "We knew they wanted to come back because usually this game is much closer but we stayed focused to finish the game."


Encinal is current second in league and needs to beat first place Piedmont on May 4 to have a shot at the league title.


Current record: 9-4 (5-2)


Baseball āš¾ļø

Encinal went an impressive 3-0 last week, defeating San Lorenzo twice and beating St. Mary's 10-5 on April 30. The Jets have now won 9 of their last 10 games.


Senior Chadd Edwards had 10 Ks over 5.2 innings against a tough Panthers team.


"My fastball worked very well today," said Edwards "85% of my pitches were strikes and I had lots of swing and misses. I was topping out at around 85-86 mph."


Jacob Baca had three hits and 6 RBIs.


"It was a total team win," said Senior Luc Kelly. "Everyone contributed defensively and offensively."


The Jets play Piedmont (13-7) for the league title on May 4 and 6.


Current record: 11-10 (7-0)


Badminton šŸø

The Jets went 1-1 last week, losing to Berkeley 8-7 before beating Hayward 12-3 on April 26. The win broke Encinal's seven game losing streak.


"[It felt] really good," said Junior Chelsea Wee. "We beat them more than we did last time and the win definitely helped boost our confidence."


Current record: 4-8


Encinal faces Tennyson in its season finale on May 2.


Track & Field šŸƒ

Men's record: 6-1

Women's record: 7-0


"Honestly, it feels great to be able to win league my senior season," said Asia Lyons-Mason. "This was the goal that we had set at the beginning of the year and thankfully we were able to achieve it."


The Jets will compete in League Championships May 5 & 7 at Hayward High School.


"My goal at League Championships is to break that school record for our 4x4," said Senior Davis Oduor.
